KAYAYEI EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMME GRADUATES 600 BENEFICIARIES
The 3rd cohort of the Kayayei Empowerment Programme has successfully graduated 600 beneficiaries, marking a significant milestone in the initiative’s mission to empower women to head porters.
The graduates, comprising 300 each from the Madina and Ashiaman campuses, underwent specialized training for a period of three weeks in six vocational areas:
– Soap and detergents (173)
– Baking (179)
– Beads and Jewellery (54)
– Decor (37)
– Pedicure and manicure (42)
– Make Up Artistry (115)
Each graduate received a starter pack, including tool kits and a micro-grant of GH¢1,000.
Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, CEO of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), congratulated the graduates on their achievements. “Your dedication and resilience are truly inspiring,” he said. “You have exceeded expectations with your performances during training.”
The Kayayei Empowerment Skills Programme aims to train 5,000 women head porters by December 2024. This initiative seeks to equip kawaii with valuable vocational skills, enabling them to overcome personal challenges and improve their socio-economic circumstances.
The graduation ceremony highlighted the progress made by the beneficiaries, who have acquired skills to transition from head portering to sustainable entrepreneurship.
NEIP’s efforts have been praised for addressing the economic and social challenges faced byKayayei, providing them with opportunities for self-discovery and growth.
As the programme continues to empower more women, it serves as a testament to the government’s commitment to supporting vulnerable groups and promoting entrepreneurship.
